Visit by the Aachen Casino Club to the MPI CEC

Traditional club from Aachen visits and is impressed by research work at the Institute

On 14 May 2025, the long-established Club Aachener Casino visited the MPI CEC in Mülheim an der Ruhr. The delegation gained exciting insights into the institute's current research work. Prof. Walter Leitner's welcome speech made it clear what a central role the MPI CEC plays within the research landscape. The research focuses on questions of sustainable energy use, which were made tangible for the guests through vivid experiments.

A highlight of the visit was the experimental lecture ‘Fire and Ice’ given by Prof. Leitner and Natalia Mendoza Vallejo. The two scientists impressively demonstrated how hydrogen and carbon dioxide function as key elements for the storage and use of renewable energies. The live experiments clearly illustrated how chemical processes can contribute to the energy transition.

Afterwards, a tour of the state-of-the-art laboratories and technical facilities took the visitors into the world of cutting-edge scientific research. This provided an opportunity to gain direct insights into the work of the researchers and to get to know the innovative infrastructure of the MPI CEC. The afternoon ended with snacks and stimulating discussions, during which the impressions gathered were deepened and questions about the research work were answered.
