The Mülheim Chemistry Campus mourns the passing of Dr. Eckhard Bill

With great sadness we have to announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our colleague and co-worker Dr. Eckhard Bill, who passed away on October 6th, 2022.

Dr. Eckhard Bill was a member of the Max Planck Institute for Radiation Chemistry (later Bioinorganic Chemistry, then Chemical Energy Conversion) since 1995, where he was directing the experimental facilities for magnetism, magnetic- and Mößbauer spectroscopies in the departments of Profs. Karl Wieghardt (1995-2010), Frank Neese (2011-2017) and Serena DeBeer (2018-2020). After his formal retirement in 2020, Eckhard Bill remained highly active in research and teaching as a consultant of the institute.

Eckhard Bill was a highly renowned scientist of the highest international caliber. Through his outstanding publications and his world-spanning network of high-profile collaborators, he has contributed decisively to the high-level of scholarship that the Mülheim Chemistry Campus has become known for.

In addition to his widely recognized contributions to science, Eckhard Bill was an outstanding teacher and mentor. He has inspired and supported countless of scientific careers. His passing leaves a  gap that is impossible to fill. The Mülheim Chemistry campus will always hold him in the highest regard and loving memory.

Our sincerest condolences go out to Dr. Bills family, in particular to his wife Dr. Ute Czeromin and his daughter Dr. Eva Bill with her family. We kindly ask to respect the privacy of the family.

A memorial service for Dr. Eckhard Bill will take place on October 22nd, 2022 at the foyer of the Max-Planck Institut für Kohlenforschung.

The family asks that no flowers be sent. Instead, they would very much appreciate a donation to charity.
