Ernst Haage Prize 2018

Max Planck Institutes in Mülheim award science prize

On November 13th, 2018, the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion together with the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung and the Ernst Haage Foundation awarded the Ernst Haage Prize to young scientists. As in previous years, the award ceremony was part of an international chemistry conference.

For twelve years now, the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion and the Ernst Haage Foundation have been awarding the science prize worth a total of 10,000 euros. Since this year, the Max-Planck-Insitut für Kohlenforschung is also a member of the Board of Trustees.

The national award went to Dr. Tim-Patrick Fellinger, who earned his doctorate in Potsdam and currently heads a research group in the field of energy materials and electrochemistry at the Technical University of Munich. He receives the prize for his outstanding research work in the field of basic catalyst development in oxygen-related electrochemical energy conversion.

The Ernst Haage PhD & Postdoc Prize went to Dr. Lucas Schreyer. He did research for his doctoral thesis in the Department of Homogeneous Catalysis at the Max-Planck-Insitut für Kohlenforschung under the direction of Prof. Ben List and received his doctorate summa cum laude from the University of Cologne in September 2018. His dissertation in the field of organocatalysis deals with asymmetric carbon-carbon bonding reactions.

Furthermore, the apprentices Julia Busch (MPI KOFO) and Till Wehner (MPI CEC) were also awarded the Ernst Haage Prize for Apprentices.
