Finsen Medal for former group leader

Prof. Braslavsky honored

Prof. Silvia E. Braslavsky, former research group leader at the institute, will receive the Finsen Medal for her outstanding contributions to the Photosciences.

The Finsen Medal is granted by the <link http: www.iuphotobiology.org _blank external-link-new-window internal link in current>International Union of Photobiology (IUPB). The medal is named after Niels Ryberg Finsen who was granted the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1903 for his contributions to the treatment of diseases with light.

Prof. Braslavsky will receive the Medal on the occasion of the next International Congress of Photobiology, to be held in Barcelona in August (25th – 30th) 2019.

Prof. Braslavsky led a research group in the department of Prof. em. Kurt Schaffner, Director of the then called Max Planck Institute for Radiation Chemistry (now for Chemical Energy Conversion). She led the group from 1978 and retired in 2007.
