Monday 12 May | 11:15 a.m. | University of Oslo

We are delighted that Prof. Serena DeBeer, Director of the Department of Inorganic Spectroscopy, will be giving this year's Hassel Lecture 2025 at the University of Oslo. This prestigious lecture series is organized annually by the Department of Chemistry in collaboration with the Norwegian Chemical Society (Norsk Kjemisk Selskap, NKS) to honour the legacy of Nobel Prize winner Odd Hassel, whose groundbreaking research in physical chemistry has had a lasting impact on the scientific community.

The Hassel Lecture is a prestigious platform that highlights innovative and transformative research in the field of chemistry. Each year, a leading researcher is invited to share insights and the latest research findings with the academic community. For 2025, Prof. DeBeer has been selected to present her groundbreaking work in the field of catalysis and spectroscopy, demonstrating the institute's ongoing commitment to advancing research in this area.

Serena DeBeer will give two lectures during her stay at the University of Oslo:

  • ‘From biological to heterogeneous catalysis: Spectroscopic studies of ammonia synthesis and decomposition’
    12 May 2025 | 11:15–12:00
  • ‘Advanced Spectroscopic Studies of C-H Bond Activating Enzymes’
    13 May 2025 | 14:15

The MPI CEC is proud that Prof. DeBeer is being honoured for her innovative research and contribution to the scientific community. The Hassel Lecture not only serves as a platform for knowledge exchange, but also as inspiration for future scientists in the fields of chemistry, materials science and energy conversion.

We congratulate Prof. DeBeer on this prestigious award and look forward to the exciting discussions that her lectures will stimulate at the University of Oslo.
