Researcher for a day

Pupils enjoy holiday program at the MPI CEC

That's how excitement and fascination looks. Contagious! (c) MPI CEC

A group of pupils, the so called 'Ferienforscher' (holidayresearchers), first visited the MPI CEC in 2012. Now in 2016 the fifth group enjoyed an exciting day at the institute.

The students got the chance to get an insight in the daily life of our scientists and to experiment with liquid nitrogen, which is always a great highlight: The fast transformation from the solid ice to volatil gas always arouses amazement.

Bernd Mienert, a laboratory technician at the MPI CEC, used the liquid nitrogen to show how to work with really deep temperatures in the lab. There is no need to say that the visitors loved it, when he used the liquid nitrogen to create delicious icecream.

The "Ferienforscher" are particpants in a scientific project week organized by the "Amt für Kinder, Jugend und Schule" (department for children, adolescence and school). From 25.07-29.07 the group got to the bottom of exciting scientific things. This is a great project and the MPI CEC is proud the be part of it.
