The Ministry of Culture and Science has met with representatives of universities and other scientific institutions, students, university hospitals and student unions to discuss the current situation surrounding Russia's war of aggression on Ukraine and its impact on science and research.
All participants agreed on a joint declaration: The universities in the state as well as the state-owned non-university research institutions (such as JRF) are called upon to critically examine existing scientific cooperations and relationships with Russia and Russian institutions and to suspend them until further notice. No new projects will be started at this time. The decision is in line with statements made by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Alliance of Science Organizations, among others.
The MPI CEC agrees with this statement and also follows the recommendation of the MPG President Martin Stratmann to stop any activities in connection with Russian cooperation for the time being.
