From 12 to 14 May 2025, the 40th advanced training seminar and network meeting for trainers in the metalworking professions of the Max Planck Society (MPG) took place at the MPI CEC in Mülheim an der Ruhr. Around 30 participants from various Max Planck Institutes across Germany took the opportunity to exchange ideas on current developments in training, new learning methods and key topics such as digitalisation and addiction prevention.
The event kicked off with a welcome address and the introduction of new trainers within the MPG. On the second day of the event, following an introduction to the institute by Prof. Leitner, an intensive workshop on the topic of ‘Learning 4.0’ was on the agenda. In addition to theoretical insights into learning processes and the importance of an optimal learning environment, practical questions about digitalisation in training were discussed. The afternoon was devoted to the important topic of ‘Addiction in the workplace’ under the direction of Ruben Planert. Not only were basic knowledge and current consumption trends discussed, but the challenges of dealing with affected trainees were also examined in a practical manner.
A special highlight on the final day was the excursion to the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen. There, participants gained exciting insights into the historical coal production processes at the coking plant for steel manufacturing. The visit not only offered an opportunity to experience industrial history up close, but also to further deepen the exchange among participants.
The 40th training seminar once again demonstrated how important professional exchange and continuous training are for trainers at the Max Planck Society. Together, new ideas were developed to successfully master the challenges of the future in training.
